Germans (Germanus of Auxerre?, bishop, 448)
Commemoration
31 July

Germanus of Auxerre was born c.378 and held high office in Auxerre, having been trained as a lawyer and practiced in Rome. In 418 his reputation was such that he was elected bishop of Auxerre, despite being married [was he a widower? was he even a priest??]. Bede records that he twice visited Britain to work against the Pelagian heresy. He died at the court of the Emperor at Ravenna in 448.

Germanus is the patron of one of the two parish churches at Wiggenhall.
